I'm glad it turned out well! Nice knife too. The "smile" is caused by uneven pressure when you file. At the beginning of a file stroke you are using a lot of pressure, then correcting, then evening out at the tip. Or the file could be wavy and you're filing fine! :biggrin:

Looks like a really thin very pretty bowie, no idea how that could be better as a kitchen knife though. \I'm Glad it was a custom order!

Not for basic 10XX steels, probably not used for others as well but I don't have experience with those. The foil is mainly to prevent oxidation on stainless steels where the scale is much tougher.

Don't they (3M) have an expiration date on them? A dial looking affair somewhere on the side. I just switch mine when it gets more difficult to breathe, probably not the best thing to do though..

I would recommend hammering it out flat (carefully) then re-heating it, either in another fire making sure the logs don't crush it or with a propane torch. perhaps there are some local knife makers who have an oven and are willing to let you use it?

To get off the stain use an acid like bar keepers friend, it works well. All it is, is a powdered form of oxalic acid. I get it at my local grocery store. http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/using-bar-keepers-friend
