Knife makers:what do YOU do with blades & knives that aren't quite "perfect"...?

like everyone else I try and fix the problem, most of the time it is turned into a shop knife or destroyed for testing ( I have a lot of shop knives). That said I just finished one with a flaw in the handle I couldn't fix, the blade was fine so I did sell at a reduced price. I would not sell one...

    Couple Questions about cable

I have to agree its not worth the effort. I didn't make the billet a friend of mine did with a hyd. press and it still had areas that didn't weld which I found out after forging and grinding the blade . I have made a few billets of layered damascus with out the problems of the cable. That said...

    Uncle Al's Hydraulic press!

That is a great press. I was at Uncle Al's shop last year and saw that style of press and it looked great and at a very reasonable price. your right about him being a great guy. I am still struggling about a press or power/tire hammer. I don't do a lot of Damascas so I am leaning more to the...

    Cable Damascus

yes I think there are to many little places for me to feel confident in it to try and take the clip down. I will just chock it up to the old learning curve and scrap it for now. Man sometimes that learning curve sure get steep LOL... Thanks for the help.......Steve

    temper 1095

I would agree with Doug and V6 on the extra tempering. If the blade is smaller it will break easier when you bend it. it just doesn't have enough area to make the bend or distribute the stress like a bigger blade........Steve
