What are the advantages and disadvantages of each, I hope to do some heat treating of simple steel blades, 1080 or 84, forge some blades and in time make some demascus. I have a very small horizontal forge and want something bigger. Thanks, Ed

I am told you can spin a short piece of 3/8" round stock and heat the spot you want to drill. Ed

At his age I would stick with making knives with hand tools. Grinders are much more effective on flesh than they are on steel. Look at some videos of making knives and you will have a better idea of what to get. Several big files and lots of sand paper to start.
