    relining of forge

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hosted a mini hammer a couple weekends ago and my forge took a beating. Had trouble getting it up to welding temp so I had to reline it. I decided to make the opening bigger. I went from 5"x5" opening to a...

    I got a couple questions...

Good compression spring may just work. My grinder does not have compression spring. It has 2 springs on back of lever arm. I tighten as much as I can with the spring and then lock down. I then push up on the lever arm to get more tension and then wedge a small block of wood between the lever arm...

    Commercial stabilizing set up

I use 95-1000a from Godfrey and wing. It was designed for filling porous metal. I have had a couple small fires in my stove but nothing serious. Wost thing that happened was burnt a couple pieces of wood. I now chip out all the chemical that leaked onto the bottom of stove. No fires since. Jim

I was on my way back from the fishing lodge and my wife and I stopped at a pawn shop to look around. Commercial stabilizing set up

I have been stabilizing wood for about 2 years now with great results. I made my own pressure pot from steel. I have used the pop cannisters, which work real good, but I needed more volume so I built my own custom vessel. I have been using a chemical that is very safe to use. once my vaccumm and...

Finishing up stabilized wood in an oven?

I used to use a toaster oven as well. The chemical I use needs to be heated to 205 deg for the catalyst to kick in and harden. I now use a used kitchen oven only because I am doing much bigger batches. Yes it can start a fire if you are not careful. Jim

new forge is up and running

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I couldn't wait any longer. I did a little pipe fitting to get the forge ready to fire. I fired it up and stuck a piece of 1-3/4" shaft in and less than 10 minutes it was glowing yellow. There is absolutly no...

    new forging presses

Bruce I am actually going to hilti this press down to the shop floor. I made the footprint as small as I possibly could but still have a good size press. I actually used whatever materials I had left over from other jobs. I built one for Dennis as well but now he is talking foolish about having...
