Heat treating in a coal/charcoal forge. As in how to get an even heat and everything would be nice. :)

How many times can you reuse the hardener?

I have, I live in north phoenix AZ and every place is 30 min-2 hours away and I have no way to buy in bulk. So i would be traveling almost daily if I could... I need something closer. I've tried googling junk yards scrap yards and metal suppliers but all are too far away..
