    Did I fry my PID?

Lmao "the magic smoke escape" :p Felt like that was the case. Turns out it was a stupid little mistake. I called auberins and they took 10 seconds to figure it out. Works great now!

    Automatic knife?

When I was a kid I saw an auto knife, you press the button and the blade releases out the front of the handle, when you press the botton again the blade goes back inside. I've never seen another of these and was wondering what it's called and how does the mechanism in such a knife work?

    Did I fry my PID?

Thanks that's a good idea i'll contact Aubrins in the morning. The manual said the terminals aren't polarity speciffic. The outlet still works (no breakers tripped) Just a quick "zap" sound and no LED light. I've read and re read the manual in that link and can't figure out what happened.

    Did I fry my PID?

Sorry idk... I need it for a project tomorrow and setup didnt go well. Aubrins SYL-1512a2 PID controller. Here's the manual I was following... http://auberins.com/images/Manual/SYL-1512A2instruction%201.0.pdf I took a standard power cable for a lamp, wired it to the correct terminals as it...

Completed my third and fourth knives.

The smaller one is a knife I made for my mother. 1084, buffalo handle. It was completed about three weeks ago. The larger one I just completed today for my fathers birthday. 1084, G10 scales, stainless bolster. The bolster was glued and pinned, it was my first attempt at doing a steel bolster...

CA coat for wood handle quesion

This did cross my mind. Can truoil alone fill small pores in wood like bubinga?

I would like to discuss mirror finish on a buffer

Just a random thought really. I spent about four hours yesterday trying to buff out a small imperfection about the size of a speck of dust. I can get a pretty decent mirror finish these days. I'm picky so it has to be free of distortion, imperfections and haze or small scratches. I know what I...

CA coat for wood handle quesion

Those truoil handles look great! I have some truoil around here i'll give that a try. I have another one of these "hobby blocks" it's bubinga, I was planning to use it on another knife. I norice the bubinga does have slightly visible pores. So this would be a good candidate to fill the pores...

CA coat for wood handle quesion

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I was worried about with this finish. It's a nice piece of figured raw maple wood that I just happened to have and want to use. I'm not so worried about moisture with this one, I suspect it will be kept bone dry. The problem I was worried about is shrinking...

    Anneal 416?

It's just a thumb, slap some duct tape on it ;) That's good advice about the bandsaw! I've seen it happen myself in high school and it's not good. The scale! That had not occured to me, could explain why there is little info on annealing the pins. I will cut some new ones and use a hack saw...

CA coat for wood handle quesion

I'm about to attempt a CA superglue coat on an un stabilised maple handle and have a question or two. The CA cost $7.00 for 4ml is that going to be enough for a large handle or two? CA sounds like a decent coat for wood but I havent read anything about a downside too it other than slippery...

    Anneal 416?

Despite my searching I cant track down the HT info for 416. I'm having problems with my bolster pins they're hard as... Well... Steel :p I think I overheat them when I cut them with a zip cut disk, and would like to anneal them. Could somebody direct me to the HT info thanks!

Just another quick hamon (etchant) question

Wow did not know that about MA, good to know. I store it away from pretty much everything just incase. For FC PCB. That also doesnt exist here. No Radioshack, no electronics or circuit board shops. Just doesn't exist :p I can order it online and have been considering that but I really REALLY...

I've been considering vinegar with lemon juice and possibly some salt.

Just another quick hamon (etchant) question

I was searching for FC in my area... Doesn't exist. I could order it or make it but I may have another option. I have heard from several sources to use muriatic acid (this I have a lot of) I'm told its better than ferric chloride. I have also read you can't use it because it destroys steel...
