Did I make this to thin ?

Thanks! Ill try that grinding it back a bit. I was tninking more like the body of the blade bending or breaking on small saplings and such. Idk is that likely with a grind like this ?

Did I make this to thin ?

Working on 12 inch chopper from 1084. Its flat ground and distally tapered. 3/16 spine tapered to about 1/8th at the edge. I would leave it at that but it uas quite a bit of material Injave ro remove to get the grind marks out. looking at it id say the edge will be just around 1/16 give or take...

    Buffing issues

First one is after hand sanding with 800 grit. Second and fourth are after buffing for 5 minutes with white compound you can see the bad scratches. I went back and hand sanded from the start again. Only seemed to make it worse. Oh sorry these are upside down. They always seem to do that when I...

    Buffing issues

I agree. I just havent yet figured out how to do anything other than mirror finish. It takes a long time but eventually I do get mirror. Ive tried satin finishes but they never work out right. Are these scotchbrite belts like a regular grinding belt or more like a polishing belt ? Im going to...

    Buffing issues

Im hand sanding lengthwise and the scratches are also lengthwise... That whats confusing me. I thought that 800 grit was high enough grit to not show scratches when buffing. If im leaving scratches... Idk id need a serious magnifying lens to see them. Even under bright light im not seeing any...

    Buffing issues

Oh haha yeah... I think I have been using them backwards. I read the buffing link a few posts below just a moment ago and noticed I had the order reversed... No idea where I picked that up. Yeah highlighting the scratches it what it seems to be doing. I can get a few pictures tomorrow. Im not...

    Buffing issues

This could be similar to the post just below this but im not sure. I do mirror finish on my blades but im having a few issues getting there. I grind usually to about 400 grit surface then HT. Then I grind off scale and do final grind up too 800 grit rhynowet sheets. Im making every effort to...

Do any of you use an evenheat and know what this is about ?

Every time I use my evenheat kiln with the rampmaster controller it does something odd. I follow the instructions in the manual exactly. Lets say I have it set to soak at 1500 for 20 minutes. It heats to temperature, the alarm tells me its at temp. Then the timer starts to count down from minute...

    Stainless bolster on carbon steel

Ok metallurgical was the main concern. Fit and finish is my second thought. I was thinking of pinning the bolster to the carbon steel then buffing it all to a mirror finish. The only thing I can think of that could go wrong is it may show lines where the 1084 meets the the stainless. Im not...
