    That's they way I do mine too. In that case, you can do the file work post heat treat and it won't be too tough on your files. Sorry for the delay in getting back to ya.

    It really depends upon the steel type and what type of heat treat (full or differential).

    the wood was harvested in the next county north of us. I let it spalt here in my wood storage area (outside the shop).
