    1095 hardness?

What is a good hardness on 1095 that will be used as a daily carry type knife? 3/16 thickness of stock. It's not a large knife or a chopper. Thanks.

Brandon's Fantastical Journey to becoming a knife maker...

Nice set up for sure. Better than mine anyway. Have you finished a blade yet?

    Will this thing help?

You can also start with your left hand and then match it up with your dominate hand.

    Will this thing help?

Continue practicing. I've flat ground about 16 blades now free hand. I'm just now getting to where I can match my sides up without it taking forever. The bubble jig should help. That's my next purchase. How many knives have you ground.

I'm curious to see the final price tag. I need to make one myself.

    Brandon Miller Knife Maker Extraordinaire!!!

My knife number 4 that was my first one to ever sell came back for some mods. My friend liked what I have been doing lately and wanted a different finish. I decided to work on the flats, clean up the tang, reshape slightly the handle scales, and then re fit the sheath. Pretty much an overhaul...

    Help Please: Motor Maintenance

Likely a bearing issue. Not much else in an electric motor to make noise. Assuming you put it back together properly.

Knife that nearly took my finger

That's a bummer how bad you cut your finger. Will you have 100% use of it when it is all healed up? My dad just did similar damage to himself with a runaway angle grinder. He's having to go through physical therapy to get his mobility back.

Knife that nearly took my finger

How bad was the cut? Let's see a picture of that too. Nice knife also. I make a very similar kydex sheath.

    24" wheel grinder......well maybe

Be sure to have it balanced. I can see it tearing up your bench and machine otherwise. Why not just get a 2x72 wheel and be done with it? :)

    LlamaHerder Knife Build Thread

Is this your second knife? Flat grinding will get easier. I have flat ground about 14 blades now. Not many I know, but I am starting to get the hang of it. A couple of more free hand flat grinds and it will really start to get where you can match the grinds on both sides without having to keep...

    Flat Grind help?

I ground my platen on the sides to match belt width. This does the same as mentioned above.

    Flat Grind help?

Let's see a pic of the grinder. I'm guessing the platen needs some work. Have you done any mods to the grinder?

    1095 supplier question

I have a nice DeWalt angle grinder. That's how I'v been doing the bulk of the stock removal. Then it gets put on the 4x36 to get the final shape. The oscillating spindle sander makes the curves and finger grooves on the handle. The Craftsman 2x42 does the flat grinds. That's how I've been...

    1095 supplier question

Great info guys! The main reason I'm asking is because being married with 4 small kids, 2 with special needs, a full time job, and starting a machining course full time in the evenings in a couple of weeks, my time is almost entirely gone. Money is always a factor, but time may be even more of a...

    1095 supplier question

Where would you go to get 1095 cold rolled annealed steel in a sheet or quantity conducive for waterjetting? I'm thinking about pricing it out to see if I can save some time for a little money. Just not sure where to start looking. What is the typical price to have a knife blank waterjetted...
