Nvm I read the instructions on the package. I was only able to find up to 1200 grit but that gave a ok enough mirror finish for the practice knife i'm making.

Do you dip the paper in the water or put water on the knife?

You can't add carbon to it somehow? I've gotten pretty far and I don't want to put more money towards the blade if it's useless.

How can I heat treat this? I'm pretty new to knife making itself but i'm completely new at heat treating and I want to give it a shot. I can temper in the oven and I have a very small brick coal forge outside which I could use, if not I have access to a gas forge. Thank you -Pedro

Thank you very much that is a great amount of info I didn't know. Do you know any local stores which carry sandpaper over 220 grit? I haven't found any yet. I found that Ace carries up to 1500 grit but thats it. It pretty much skips, and what is the wet sandpaper?

If you can't make you're own which is a little more expensive but it's nothing much (it's a much better deal) for that price. Then just get a craftsman belt grinder or look on craigslist. Craftman has a 2x48" belt grinder for about 130 or so. Should work very well. way better than my 4". You can...

I'm at the stage now where I'm going to hand sand my knife but how should I progress with this kind of steel and what should I be looking for while I do it? If possible I want to get a mirror finish.

There is a leaver you pull to change the belts but even with that it doesn't do much, there is one thing that does look like you can lift the contact wheel but it only has round/oddly hexed wholes which nothing fits into so i'm not sure how to fix it? -Peter

Josh Dabney: I'm sorry i'm confused there? and I have a cheap craftsman 1/3 HP 4"x36" belt sander. How could I fix the pressure?

I have started my blades flat grind today and it was coming around pretty well but the belt sanders belt keeps shifting from side to side, it won't hold still and i can't seem to get an even grind. It's also chipping at my riccasso. Any idea's on how to fix this? -Pedro
