Ernie Now has a Heat treat oven!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ernie, Just wanted to chime in about your thermocouple, is it on the bottom of your furnace or did you take an upside down pic? Does not look like the ideal place for one, but that would be a good topic for a new thread! Glad to see your furnace glowing though, now the fun begins. Sincerely...

    grinder motor quesions

Hi Chris, I think smaller DC motors usually are 90volts and they run on 110 Ac and the larger DC motors are 180 volts and require 220 Ac. The controllers convert AC to DC and most can be run on 110 or 220 by switching a connector inside the box. I am no electrical expert, but I have hooked up my...

    What really motivates us?

Very Cool Video ! For me when money takes priority my creative skills go down and so does my quality. Been doing this for 22 years, full time. No heath care, and live on bare minimum, no vacations, but I have control and quality craftsmanship is my life. Something that is hard wired in my...

Dewalt porta band saw or 4x6 metal band saw?

I agree with Ed, I have this exact Dewalt bandsaw in my shop and it works great!! I will look to see what model # it is. I got mine at Tool King online with free shipping, pays to shop around. I think I paid around 250.00 but not sure? I used plumbing strap to secure mine to the wall, very...

Plate quench / kydex press combo

The bottom plywood just sits there, I have not had a problem with it slipping around, the top clips are made from 1/16" thick aluminum straps, easy to slide the whole thing on and off. You could use them clips on the bottom if you have a problem with movement. I got my aluminum plates from a guy...

    RC hardness question

I agree with mike, 400 degrees is a good tempering temp. Rockwell, 60 - 60.5 is to hard for 440C. Even expensive hardness testers have a margin of error of plus or minus 1 point, this means if a tester reads Rockwell 60 it is in the 59-61 range. The 57-59 range is a great working hardness for...

    Surface Grinder Conversion

Hello, I was wondering why everybody is going with the 1" wide belts? Is the 2" too much for the surface grinder to handle, pressure per square inch thing? Building one of these is my next project, but I have to sell a motorcycle first! Sincerely, Clint

    Gorilla Super Glue-Jim Adams

Hi Walter, For me, I only use super glue on handles that are going up to a pre-installed bolster or finger guard. I use the thick longer cure type, put a bead of it on the tang then put the scale on until tight with bolster holding tight with your finger and using a cant twist clamp to squeeze...

    More Quench ?'s

Get yourself a candy thermometer from the grocery store, they are a enclosed glass tube with a thermometer gauge inside and a metal clip to hang on your quench tank. Pretty cheap and seem to be accurate ! That's what I use anyway. Sincerely, Clint
