    Newbie needs help

Possibly, but lets get a bit more info first... What is the overall size of the blank? thickness, blade length, etc... Is the blank already hardened and tempered? Are you cooling periodically by dunking in water? Do you have a pic of the blank with the warp? Charlie

Had to modify an old tool into a new tool today.

Bob that looks to be as heavy duty as the table it's sitting on! Great work. Call you later this afternoon as well. Charlie

How hot does metal have to be before it goes "pssst" when ya dunk it in water?

I wonder if the tip is getting hotter than the portion you have your fingers on... I too hear this now and then. Charlie

    How about a mokume forum?

Del and Bob, First off, I am looking forward to the extras in the next tutorial! Del, I've looked at a LOT of your work and it really intrigues me. Mokume work is quickly reminding me of the wood work I have done since childhood. You can copy the same basic shape many times over, but each...

    How about a mokume forum?

Sorry for the late reply folks... Had a bug hit me over the weekend... I love everything that Delbert is talking about (not to mention his work), but some of us don't have the electric heat treat systems, and the "tutorial" doesn't go on to say HOW one goes about cleaning, prepping, etc...

    How about a mokume forum?

Bob, you are correct! LOVING the mokume! But at the same time, I REALLY want to learn the damascus practice as well! About the press and anvil... Yeah, I'm ALL OVER THAT! What do you need? and WHAT do I need to "acquire"? Charlie

    How about a mokume forum?

Delbert, You are CLOSE to what I am talking about, but I am looking for mokume only... There are a LOT of diffeerent ways to dress up a knife. At the same time, there are a LOT of things one can do with mokume that is NOT knife related... Charlie

    How about a mokume forum?

I LOVE trying to make knives, and I love working with all things metal. But, since my visit to Bob's place, and him telling me about mokume, I've been an internet fanatic trying to learn all I can about how to make this stuff. Thus far I've made mokume from copper/brass and made it from...

What would you like to see in a Heat Treating Video

Yeah, pretty much... I was thinking SOME of those before I read his post, and now I'm CURIOUS about the rest of them... Charlie

    Supply suggestions please!

Erin is right on the money, but I'd like to add one thing, even with flux you need flat and CLEAN surfaces. Dissimilar metals try to stay that way if you give them the chance. Flatten BOTH surfaces on a good flat base (glass, granite, etc...) with paper and double check the fit cold prior to...

    Mas mokume

Let me start off with this; Bob Warner put the mokume thing in my head and I have now become a MONSTER! :what!::biggrin::what!: Thanks Bob, this ROCKS! I don't yet have the forge to make Damascus (or the knowledge), but mokume is another story! The first pic is of a billet I made from...

On The Road To 2000.........With a giveaway

Ernie, The LAST thing I need right now is another knife! But, since it might be free and all, I guess I'll play... Something funny; Our new neighbors moved in this last week and I met them once in the front yard... Earlier tonight they came over to say hi and just as they walked into the...

Who all has lost a favorite knife?...

I ALMOST lost a knife that is near and dear to me once, and I now have it put up for safe keeping. My son picked out a folder for me when he was 5 years old, he is now 16. 3 years ago I was helping a friend move and realized when we got to the new place, 20 something miles away, that my...
