has anyone seen any threads how to make scales from pine cone, im really interested in trying it............any help plz

just another twisted concept, purple & white with copper end, thinking about sanding out the low spots or give it the age effect, any ideas? and a few rings that came out browny white and purple

:35: finally finished ......whatever material you use it goes darker, started with neon green/purple, now ended with a grass green/black looking, but all in all im quite happy with end result and with a matching ring & pendent, lolz :clap: Finished in superglue and a light polish

rings are made just by drilling hole in slab of micarta, then use a sharpie to draw black line around perimeter of hole, then roughy cut with hanksaw and then sand it down to the black line and use that as a guide for the thickness

just finished this handle for a mate, 60 strips of cotton material black & white, final thickness is 3/4" and finished with superglue, now that was a @@@@@ to do on this size handle :31:...........comments plz

i used ariel salaverria idea, here's the link http://www.aescustomknives.com/docs/knifemaking18.htm and this is the epoxy resin i use

here's my version of damascus micarta.............got the idea from Ariel Salaverria :biggrin: hope you all like and alot more sanding to do, couldn't wait till its finished, so i had to show it off :35:

hello everyone :57: here's a new handle of micarta (black,orange,white) and i've added a copper end bolster, penned and epoxy together. Just wet sanded it and now thinking of leaving small penn marks in the copper end and then antiqueing it with ammonia then super glue...

just been using Delux spray can lacquer................been thinking of trying the superglue method soon.......check out my other handles i've made in my other posts :)

got a horizontal belt sander, files, drill press and sanding paper...........been working out fine so far :)

3 to 4 hrs max, hard part is getting the profile the same on each side when you look down on them.........i've got limited equipment but be easier if i had the right tools :)

cut slap to an over size of existing old handle and epoxy glue together and pin it, leave overnight...........sand the profile to handle shape then continue sanding the edges to a profile your happy with..........wet and dry sanding from 800 to 1000 grit, leave to dry for a day or two then clear...

strips of cotton bed sheets.......20 or so in total IMG_20120624_114913.jpg (91.0 KB) cover wooden jig in a little vaseline and wax paper IMG_20120624_123940.jpg (88.6 KB) nail one end with a little over hang at the other end and now ready to epoxy resin together...
